Busy is only half the picture
In Reports, open Service profitability. By service lists each service’s bookings, revenue and margin: what is left once the cost of each visit is taken off. A full calendar tells you the time is taken. Margin tells you what that time leaves.
Situata
Zbatojeni në praktikë.
Your team is busy, but there is little left at the end of the month. Before adding more appointments or changing every price, look closely at one service.
Çfarë do të mësoni
You can calculate what one service leaves towards overhead and profit, per visit and per occupied hour.
Përpara se të filloni
You need permission to manage services and to see reports. Give each service a cost of service so the reports can show its margin. The prices in this lesson are before sales tax.
Kini parasysh
The amount left after direct costs is not take-home pay. Rent, other overhead and profit still have to come from it. The worked example assumes direct costs stay unchanged when the price is discounted.
Provoni vendimin
A 150 dollar service costs 22 dollars a visit to deliver. With 10% off and the same cost, what does each visit leave towards overhead and profit?

1. Busy is only half the picture
In Reports, open Service profitability. By service lists each service’s bookings, revenue and margin: what is left once the cost of each visit is taken off. A full calendar tells you the time is taken. Margin tells you what that time leaves.

2. Count the whole appointment
Open Services and choose the service. Basic details holds its duration and the buffer after it. Count the whole time the room and the person are booked, setup and clean-up included, not only the treatment.

3. Add what each visit costs
In the service’s Settings, Cost of service is what one visit costs you to deliver: products, disposables and anything else that changes with each visit. The reports take it off the price to show margin. Rent and other fixed costs stay out of it.

4. Compare by the hour
Back in the list, compare services by the hour, not by the visit. Signature Facial is $150 for 60 minutes and costs $22, so it leaves $128 an hour. Express Facial is $85 for 30 minutes and costs $12: $73 a visit, or $146 for two in an hour.

5. Check the cost of a discount
Price a discount before you offer it. In Point of sale, open Quotes and New quote, add the service and choose the deal. Ten percent off Signature Facial brings it to $135. The $22 cost stays the same, so the visit leaves $113: $15 less than at full price. The quote is not saved.

6. Choose the one to review
Back in Service profitability, compare Margin % to see which services keep the least of what they earn. Choose one to review and change one thing at a time: its price, its time or its costs. Check the report again after a few weeks.
