Talk to Oryx instead of typing

Speak your question to Oryx, check the words it heard, and send them, with what happens to the recording and what to do when it doesn't work.

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Ask Oryx a question out loud, between clients or with your hands full. Oryx writes down what you said in the message box, and you check it and send it.

Before you start

  • Who can do it: admins and owners, when the AI assistant is switched on for your business. It's the same access as Oryx itself. See Meet Oryx, your AI assistant.
  • You need a microphone and a browser that can record audio. The first time, your browser asks to use the microphone. Allow it.

Speak your message

Open Oryx

Select Ask Oryx in the top bar, or press Ctrl+J (Windows) or ⌘J (Mac).

Start recording

Select the microphone, Speak your message, beside the message box. A band above it reads Recording, with a timer.

Say your question

Speak as you would to a colleague, such as "How many no-shows did we have last week?". You have up to 60 seconds; the recording stops by itself at the limit. Select Cancel to throw it away.

Stop and check the words

Select the microphone again, Stop and transcribe. After Transcribing…, the words appear in the message box where your cursor was. Fix anything it misheard.

Send it

Select Send message, or press Enter. Nothing is sent until you do.

Owneli expects you to speak the language the app is in, but it writes down whatever language it hears.

What happens to the recording

The recording is turned into text and then thrown away. It's never saved, and it isn't added to your conversation: only the words you choose to send are. If you leave the page while recording, the microphone switches off.

Check it worked

Your words are in the message box, ready to edit, and the recording band has gone.

If something goes wrong

"Microphone access was blocked"

Your browser was told not to let Owneli use the microphone. Allow it for Owneli in your browser's site settings, then try again.

"We didn't hear anything"

The recording was silent or very short. Move closer to the microphone and speak for at least a second.

"Transcription is unavailable right now"

The speech service didn't answer. Your recording is kept, so select Try again, or Dismiss and type instead.

"You've used this hour's voice transcription"

There's a limit on recordings per hour. Type your message, or try again later.

There's no microphone button

Your browser can't record audio, or Oryx isn't available to you. Use an up-to-date Chrome, Edge or Safari, and check you're an admin or owner.
