A stock count checks the shelf against the system. Start a count, type what you physically find for each product, and complete it — Owneli applies every variance as a stock adjustment in a single transaction and logs it in the stock movement journal. Counts are per-location.
You need stock management access.
How do I do a stocktake?
Start a count
Go to Products and open Stock counts (/inventory/counts), then click New count. The count opens against your active location with a line for every stock-tracked product and its expected quantity.
Count and enter
Walk the shelf and enter the counted quantity per line. The variance column updates live — green for surplus, red for shortfall. Use the filter tabs to focus: All, Uncounted, Variance, Matched.
Save as you go
Save stores your progress without changing any stock. A count can stay open across a break or a shift change.
Complete the count
Click Complete. Every counted line's variance is applied to stock at once, journalled with the reason "count". If anything fails mid-apply, nothing is applied and the count stays open — you never end up half-adjusted.
What completing does — and doesn't — touch
| Line state | Effect on stock |
|---|---|
| Counted, matches expected | No change |
| Counted, differs | Stock adjusted to the counted figure |
| Left uncounted | Untouched — treated as not part of this count |
0 explicitly if the shelf is empty.Cancelling a count discards it without touching stock.
Common questions
Does a count freeze sales while it's open?
No — the till keeps selling. Expected quantities are captured for the count session, so complete promptly; a long-open count on a busy product can apply a stale variance.
Who can run a count?
Anyone with stock management access. Every applied variance is attributed in the stock log and audit trail.
Where do I see the result afterwards?
Growth → Reports → Stock movement log shows each count adjustment; Stock on hand shows the corrected position.
