Find your way around Owneli

A two-minute tour of the sidebar — the three spines, the five groups, and where configuration hides.

Updated Sep 1, 2026

Owneli runs a whole practice — clients, calendar, point of sale, retail, and team — from one sidebar. That sidebar is deliberately short. Once you know its shape, you can find anything in one or two clicks.

The three spines

Three items sit at the top and are always one click away, whether the sidebar is expanded or collapsed to icons:

  • Today — your home. Clock in, see what's booked, clear anything that needs action, and check the day's numbers. This is also what the app logo links to.
  • Calendar — every appointment, for every team member, on one grid.
  • POS — sales. Ring up services, products, memberships, and gift cards, and close out the cash drawer.

These are the surfaces you open every working hour, so they never hide behind a menu.

The five groups

Everything else lives in one of five groups. Each is a single icon when the sidebar is collapsed; click it to slide out a rail with the full list.

GroupWhat's inside
ClientsClients, Messages, Submissions, Forms, Care Guides, Emails
OperationsServices, Notes, Boards, Time off, Policies
RetailMemberships, Packages, Gift cards, Discounts, Products, Reorder this week, Purchase orders, Vendors
TeamTeam, Scheduling
GrowthReports, Reviews, Campaigns, Automations, Loyalty
You may not see all of these. Every link is permission-gated, so the sidebar only ever shows what your role can actually open. Growth and Settings are hidden from most staff roles entirely. On top of that, some links (Team, Time off, Boards, Vendors and the like) can be hidden per person — automatically for a small workspace, or by your own choices under Settings → Menu. A hidden page is still reachable by search and direct link, and Restore default brings the menu back.

Settings

Settings is the last icon, and it's admin-only. It absorbs everything you configure once and rarely touch again: business details and locations, booking rules, payment processor and payment policy, tips, tax rates, roles and permissions, the online store, the audit log, and data import.

The rule of thumb: if you'd open a page less than once a week, it's in Settings.

Reading the sidebar

Two small markers carry real meaning:

  • An eye icon next to a link means you can open the page but not change anything. It saves you a click into a page where every button is disabled.
  • An amber number is a count of things waiting on you — pending time-off approvals, notes awaiting acknowledgement, unread client messages. When the sidebar is collapsed, the same signal shows as an amber dot on the group icon.

Collapsing the sidebar

Click the small chevron chip on the sidebar's right edge to collapse it to icons and win back screen width. Your choice is remembered across sessions and devices.

On a phone

Below tablet width there is no sidebar. Owneli becomes a tab-bar app: Today · Calendar · Sell · Clients · More along the bottom of the screen. The first four are the same spine surfaces; More opens the full directory — every page from the sidebar groups above, a "Find a page" search, and your account actions (My profile, Settings, System status, Sign out). If an instruction in these articles names a sidebar item you can't see on your phone, it's under More.

The top bar

Along the top of every page:

  • Search (or ⌘K / Ctrl+K) — jump to any client, appointment, or page.
  • Location switcher — if your business has more than one location, this scopes what you're looking at. An organisation switcher appears beside it only if you belong to more than one business.
  • Send — one entry point for sending a form, sharing a care page, or emailing a client, so you don't have to navigate to three different list pages.
  • Language — English, Spanish, and French.
  • Light/dark mode.
  • Notifications — the bell, with a red count when something is unread.
⌘K is the fastest way to move around once you know client names. It searches clients and pages together.

What's next

If you're standing up a new business, work through the setup checklist. If someone else already set things up and you're joining an existing team, go straight to your day.
