When Owneli closes a business

What stops while Owneli has closed a business, what the team and the business's clients see, what is kept, and what happens when it reopens.

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Owneli can close a business on its platform, and reopen it later. Only Owneli can do this, never someone inside the business. While a business is closed, nothing is booked, charged or sent, and nothing is deleted.

What stops while it's closed

  • Bookings and payments. Clients can't book or pay online, and the team can't take payments.
  • Every public page and link. The booking site and venue page, the shop, and every link the business sent, such as pay links, booking links, quotes, waitlist offers, gift cards, forms and care pages, show that the business is closed. Kiosk check-in isn't available.
  • Messages and automations. No emails, texts, reminders or campaigns go out.
  • Memberships. Every running membership is paused, so nobody is billed and no sessions expire.
  • Owneli's own charges, such as messaging top-ups.

Payouts of money the business already took carry on as usual with the card processor.

What the owners and team see

Each owner gets an email, such as Demo Clinic is closed on Owneli, saying what has stopped and how to contact Owneli support.

When anyone on the team opens Owneli, they see Business closed, such as Demo Clinic is closed, with the date Owneli closed it and Nothing has been deleted. Someone who also works at another business can select Go to and that business's name. Everyone can Sign out.

To talk about reopening, the business owner contacts Owneli support.

What the business's clients see

  • On any page or link of the business: a page such as Demo Clinic is closed, which says the business isn't taking bookings or payments online right now, and tells anyone with a booking, a gift card or a membership to contact the business directly.
  • In their account: the business leaves their online account while it's closed, and comes back when it reopens.
  • In search: the business doesn't appear in Owneli's search for businesses.

When Owneli closes a business, it can also email each client with an upcoming appointment, once per appointment. The email, such as About your appointment with Demo Clinic on the date, says the business is closed for now and the appointment may not go ahead as booked, but hasn't been cancelled. It gives the location's phone number, if the business has one, and never says why the business closed.

What is kept

Everything. Clients, appointments, sales, gift cards, memberships and records stay exactly as they were. Upcoming appointments aren't cancelled.

When it reopens

Owners get an email, such as Demo Clinic is open again on Owneli, and the business picks up where it left off:

  • Clients can book and pay again, and the team can sign in and work as normal.
  • Messages and automations start again. Messages that were due more than a day ago, and reminders for visits that have already passed, aren't sent. Receipts are still sent.
  • Memberships paused for the closure resume, with their dates moved forward by the time the business was closed, so members lose no paid time or sessions.

Common questions

Can we close our own business?

Not in the app. The business's active owner can ask Owneli: on My profile, under Account deletion requests, select Request business closure. Owneli reviews ownership, billing, balances and record retention first.

Is this the same as Access suspended?

No. Access suspended is about one person's access to a business. A closed business is closed for everyone. See Why is my account suspended or pending review?
