Collect forms at the kiosk

Turn a tablet into a locked kiosk so clients fill in and sign forms on the spot, or send the form to their own phone with a QR code.

Updated Aug 14, 2026

The kiosk at /kiosk turns a signed-in tablet into a locked, PIN-protected screen where a client fills in and signs a form at the front desk. Staff pick the form and the client, then hand the device over — or send the form to the client's own phone with a QR code.

How do I set up kiosk mode?

Open the kiosk

Go to /kiosk on the device, or use the kiosk button on the Forms page. The device must be signed in to Owneli — the kiosk is a staff surface, not a public one.

Lock it with a PIN

The Set Up Kiosk Mode screen asks for a 4-digit PIN, then Start Kiosk Mode. You'll need this PIN to exit, so the client can't wander out of the kiosk into your calendar.

Pick the form and the client

On Select Form & Client, search templates with Search templates… and clients with Search clients…. For someone not yet on file, New walk-in client takes a name and an optional email and creates them tagged walk-in.

Hand the device over

Choose Hand Device to Client — or Send to phone, which shows a Scan to fill QR code the client points their camera at to open the form on their own phone.

Done — ready for the next client

After submission the client sees Form Submitted — "Please hand the device back to the staff member" — and the kiosk resets itself for the next person.

To leave, press Exit Kiosk Mode and enter your PIN. Five wrong attempts locks the exit for 60 seconds.

Opening forms from an appointment

For a booked client, you don't need the kiosk page at all: open the appointment and choose ⋮ → Open forms in kiosk. Each unsigned form linked to the visit opens in its own kiosk-mode tab, ready to hand over. If everything is already signed you get an All forms signed toast.

The kiosk collects forms — it does not check clients in. Arrival check-in happens on the appointment itself with the Check in button. See the appointment detail panel.

Common questions

Can clients check themselves in at the kiosk?

No. The kiosk is for filling in forms. A staff member selects the form and client first, then hands the device over; there is no self-service name search.

What if the walk-in client has no email?

Leave Email (optional for walk-ins) blank — the client is still created and can fill in the form. Add a real email to their profile later so they can receive receipts and reminders.

I forgot the kiosk PIN. How do I get out?

The PIN lives only for that browser session. Close the browser (or the tab's session) and reopen the app, then start the kiosk again with a new PIN.

Does the QR code work if the client has no signal?

The QR opens a normal web link, so the client's phone needs internet. If that's a problem, hand them the tablet instead.
