Take money off a sale with one of your deals, a promo code the client has, or a one-off discount you type in. Deals that need no code apply themselves as soon as the cart opens.
Before you start
Anyone who can run checkouts can apply a deal or a promo code. Typing in a discount of your own needs Can give manual discounts at checkout in your role. Taking a sale all the way down to zero needs permission to void sales.
Discount the whole sale
Open the Discount panel
In the cart, select Add cart discount under the items. You can also open ⋮ and select Add cart discount.
Choose the kind of discount
Pick a tab: Deals for one of your configured offers, Code for a promo code, or Manual for a one-off discount.
Fill it in
- Deals: select the deal. Search if the list is long.
- Code: type it in Discount code and select Apply discount.
- Manual: choose Percent or Amount, enter the value in Amount off, add a Reason such as "Loyalty thank-you", and select Apply discount. It comes off everything in the sale except tips and gift cards. A percentage stays a percentage, so adding or removing an item later works it out again.
Check the cart
The discount appears under Discounts with the amount taken off, and the total updates.
The Reason on a manual discount is saved on the sale and in the audit log.
Discount one item
Open the item
In the cart, select Edit on the item. Its panel opens, such as Edit service.
Add the discount
Under Discounts, select Add a deal to pick one of the deals that cover this item here, or Custom discount to type your own: choose Percent or Amount and enter the Amount off, with a Reason if it helps.
Apply
Select Apply. The item shows each discount and what it takes off.
An item can take up to 10 discounts. They come off in the order you added them, each worked out on the price, and together they can't take off more than the item's price. A combo saving comes off first. Tax is worked out on the discounted price.
Remove a discount
Select the ✕ beside it under Discounts, or open the item with Edit and remove it there. A deal that applied itself won't come back during this sale.
Deals that apply themselves
Deals set up without a code under Retail → Discounts apply as soon as the cart opens, if the sale qualifies and the deal is valid at this location. They're listed by name under Discounts. A deal the sale doesn't qualify for is skipped without a message. See Create discounts and deals.
A member's own price or perk from their membership also applies itself and shows as an Auto-applied perk.
Check it worked
Show breakdown on the right lists the discount as its own line, with the new total. The receipt prints it as Discount, with the reason for a manual one.
If something goes wrong
The code says "Already applied"
The code is already on this sale. It's only ever taken once, so the client isn't discounted twice.
The code doesn't work
It may have expired, reached its usage limit, need a minimum spend, not cover what's in the cart, or already have been used by this client. The message under the code says which.
I can't take the sale down to zero
A sale written down to nothing counts as a void, which needs the void permission. Ask a manager.
A gift card or the tip isn't discounted
Gift cards and tips are never included in a manual discount: a discounted gift card would create credit nobody paid for.
Can I combine a deal and a manual discount?
Yes. The manual discount applies to what's left after the deal, so nothing is taken off twice.
