Open a sale and tap Add discount on the cart (or ⋮ → Add cart discount). The Discount panel has three tabs — Deals, Code, and Manual — and eligible code-less deals apply themselves the moment the cart opens.
How do I discount a sale?

The Reason on a manual discount is recorded on the sale and the audit log — "e.g. Loyalty thank-you".
Automatic deals
Deals configured without a code under Retail → Discounts apply themselves when the cart opens, oldest first, and appear under Discounts on the cart with the amount taken off. Ineligible deals are skipped silently.
To remove one — auto-applied or not — press the ✕ next to it. It won't re-apply itself during this sale.
Discounting a single line
Each cart line has its own Add discount action, opening the same panel scoped to that line (title Line discount). Line discounts are always manual — percent or amount — and are capped at the line's value. Tax recalculates on the discounted amount.
What can't be discounted
- Gift cards and tips are excluded from cart-level manual discounts by design — a discounted gift card is unaccounted stored value.
- A cart that owes nothing has nothing to discount.
Common questions
Why did a discount appear on the sale by itself?
An active code-less deal matched the cart. It's listed by name under Discounts — remove it with the ✕ if it shouldn't apply, and review the deal's rules under Retail → Discounts.
The code says "Already applied" — is the client charged twice?
No. Re-entering an applied code is refused rather than double-counted; the discount is only ever taken once.
Can I stack a deal and a manual discount?
Yes. The manual discount applies to what remains after deals, so the client is never discounted on money already taken off.
Do discounts reduce the tax?
Yes — tax is calculated on the discounted amount, at both line and cart level. See Taxes at checkout.
