Everything you sell — services, retail products, memberships, packages, gift cards — goes through one cart. Checkout runs in three steps: Cart → Tip → Payment.
Start a sale
Two ways in:
- POS → Sell, then start a new sale. Use this for a walk-in buying product, or a gift card.
- From a completed appointment — open the appointment and check out. The services, provider and client come across already attached, which is what you want almost every time.
An open sale can be left and picked up later: Save as draft parks it, and you resume it from POS.
Build the cart
Add lines from the item picker: services, products, memberships, packages, gift cards. Quantities, taxes and any per-service tax override are calculated as you add.
Attach a client if one isn't already attached. You can complete a walk-in sale without a client, but you lose loyalty points, package and membership redemption, receipts by email, and the sale's place in that person's history.
From the sale menu you can also:
- Add cart discount — a fixed amount, a percentage, or a configured deal code. Discounts apply to their scoped subtotal and the total updates immediately.
- Add service charge — an auto-gratuity or surcharge line, if your business uses them.
- Add a sale note — internal, kept with the sale.
Choose a tender
Only the tenders that can actually settle this sale are offered:
| Tender | What it is |
|---|---|
| Card on file | Charge the client's saved card. Leads the list when there is one, because it's the fastest. |
| External terminal | The client tapped or inserted on your standalone card machine. Record it here with an optional last-4 and terminal reference so the sale ties to the terminal receipt. |
| Cash | Enter what they handed over; change due is calculated for you. |
| Check | Recorded like cash. |
| Gift card | Enter the code. The card's balance is applied, capped at the balance. |
| Membership balance | Spend down an account-balance membership's wallet. |
| Package | Redeem a prepaid session against an eligible service line. |
| Membership | Redeem an included session from a service-credit membership. |
| Self checkout | Text or email a secure link — the client enters their own card on your branded page. |
Splitting across tenders
If a tender doesn't cover the balance, the remainder stays on the sale and you pick the next method. Repeat until it's settled.
Quick presets offer the full balance, a half, and a third; rounding lands on the first tender so you never end on a stray cent.
Package, membership and membership-balance are credit tenders — they cover the bill, not the gratuity. A tip on those sales is settled by a following card or cash tender, so a client can still tip on a fully-redeemed visit.
Self checkout
Choose Self checkout, enter their mobile or email, and send. They open the link, enter their card on your branded page, and the sale closes itself here — you never see or type their card number. The screen updates on its own; there's nothing to refresh.
Needs a client attached, a balance to collect, and a connected payment processor.
Card surcharges
If your business passes card processing costs on, the surcharge is shown before you charge, not after. For a card on file, Owneli knows whether it's credit or debit and only surcharges where your rules say so. For an external terminal the funding type is unknown, so the surcharge is applied by default and you can waive it for a debit card.
When the client can't pay today
Save as unpaid completes the sale and leaves the balance owing. The sale shows as Completed · balance due, and you collect the balance later from the same sale.
Close out
Confirm the payment. The receipt is ready to view, email, or resend, and a rebooking prompt appears so you can put the next visit in the diary before they leave.
