Send a pay-by-link so the client pays on their phone

Text or email a secure self-checkout link — the client enters their own card, can add a tip, and the sale closes itself at the till.

Updated Aug 14, 2026

Choose the Self checkout tender, enter the client's mobile or email, and press Send link. The client opens a secure page, optionally adds a tip, enters their own card, and the sale closes itself on your screen — you never see or type their card number.

Pick Self checkout

On the payment step, choose Self checkout. It's offered when the sale has a client attached, a balance to collect, and a connected payment processor.

Choose Text or Email

Toggle Text or Email and fill in the Mobile number or Email address — pre-filled from the client record, and anything you type here is saved to a client who had no contact details yet.

Press Send link. The client gets "click here to securely pay" with your business name, and your screen switches to a waiting view: "This screen updates itself the moment they pay — no need to refresh."

What the client sees

A branded Secure checkout page with the itemised sale, taxes and total. If the sale includes services, they're offered a tip for their provider — preset percentages or Set a custom tip, entirely optional. They enter their card and press Pay. Cards are handled by the payment processor; the card is also saved to their file for future Card on file payments.

RuleDetail
Link life24 hours, then it expires
One at a timeA sale can only have one live link — cancel it before sending another
Waiting timeoutYour screen polls for 15 minutes, then returns to the send form (the link itself stays valid)
Tender on the receiptShows as Payment link

On the waiting screen, open Options → Cancel card payment. The client's page immediately stops accepting payment.

If the client already paid — or their payment is mid-flight — the cancel is refused and the sale completes: "Client already paid — the sale has been completed. Refund from the receipt if needed." Money is never dropped or silently kept.

Common questions

The client paid but my screen didn't update — is the money lost?

No. The payment settles server-side regardless of your screen; check POS → History for the closed sale. Even a payment that lands after the link expired is honoured.

If the sale total drops after sending, the difference is automatically refunded to the client's card — they're never charged more than the sale is worth. Cleaner: cancel the link, adjust the cart, and send a fresh one.

Why is Self checkout not in my tender list?

The sale needs a client attached, a balance greater than zero, and card payments connected under Settings → Payments.

It collects whatever the sale currently owes — so yes, reopen an unpaid sale and send a link for the balance. See Split a sale or leave a balance due.
