Smart pricing changes a service's price by the time it's booked for. Lower prices in quiet hours bring clients in; higher prices at your busiest times earn more from the slots that always fill. You set it up once, as a weekly schedule, and every booking follows it.
Before you start
- Who can do it: anyone whose role can manage pricing. That's owners, admins and managers unless you've changed the roles.
- Your services need prices. See Services and pricing.
Set up a schedule
Open Smart pricing
Go to Settings → Payments & selling → Smart pricing. The Smart pricing page opens, on the Schedules tab. Select Set up a schedule.
Choose the team
Choose All team members, or Only chosen team members to price certain people differently, such as a premium for a senior stylist. Select Continue.
Choose the services
Choose All services, or Only chosen services and tick them. Select Continue.
Set your weekly prices
Turn on a day and select Add hours. Set when the hours start and end, choose Increase or Decrease, Percent or Fixed amount, and enter Change by. A day can have up to 6 ranges that don't overlap. Copy Monday to every day repeats a day's hours across the week, and Preview shows a service's price with the change. Select Continue.
Choose where and when
Pick the Location. Under When it runs, choose Every week, Between dates for a season or a promotion, or Holidays and special days to pick dates, with Quick-fill holidays for Canada and the United States. Give it a Schedule name.
Turn it on
Leave Turn it on now on, or turn it off to save the schedule paused. Select Finish setup.
You see Schedule saved, and the schedule appears as a card marked Active or Paused.
What clients and your team see
- Online: times with a smart price are tagged Off-peak or Peak, with the usual price beside it, such as usually $120. A peak price is always shown before the client pays.
- On the appointment: the price line says so, such as Off-peak · 10% off · usually $120.
- At the register: a service is priced for the time of its appointment, or for now when there's no appointment.
To give one client the usual price, open the appointment, select Remove beside the smart price, then Remove smart price. Anyone who can manage appointments can do this. The visit goes back to its usual price, and the balance due changes to match. No card is charged and nothing is refunded at that moment.
Change, pause or clear a schedule
On the schedule's card, select Edit to change it and Save changes, or Pause to stop it for a while and Resume to start it again. Clear schedule removes it: its prices stop applying straight away, and bookings already made keep the price they were booked at.
Where a schedule for certain dates overlaps an every-week one, the dated one wins.
Single rules
For one change on its own, such as a Saturday peak, use a single rule instead of a schedule.
Start a rule
Open the Single rules tab and select New single rule.
Set it up
Enter a Rule name. Choose the Direction: Off-peak (discount) or Peak (surge). Choose the Adjustment type and enter the Amount, then pick the Days, Start time and End time, the Services and the Location.
Check the preview and save
Live preview shows what one booking would cost. Select Create rule.
Only one rule or schedule prices a slot. When two overlap, the higher Priority wins. A peak price can add up to 100%; an off-peak price can take off up to 100%.
See how it's doing
Open the Performance tab. It shows Smart-priced bookings, Extra from peak prices and Discount given off-peak, and breaks them down By schedule or rule. Cancelled and no-show visits are left out.
Check it worked
Open your booking page and choose a service. Times inside your hours are tagged Off-peak or Peak, and the price shows the usual one beside it.
If something goes wrong
Peak prices don't show at the desk
Increases apply to online bookings only is on. Edit the schedule and turn it off in the last step if you want peak prices at the desk and the register too.
A booking still has the old price
Bookings keep the price they were made at. Changing or clearing a schedule only affects new bookings.
"Overlaps other hours"
Two ranges on the same day overlap. Change one so they don't touch.
"Up to +100%"
A peak price can't more than double the usual price. Enter a smaller change.
