Check commission on a membership visit

Understand why a covered visit can earn commission, check the calculation, and separate earnings from money paid to staff.

Updated Oct 13, 2026

A client uses a membership session and owes nothing for the service today. That does not, by itself, mean the provider earns no commission. Owneli uses the membership commission rule and when you chose to recognise it.

Does the seller or the provider earn it?

The membership policy determines when commission is recorded. An applicable commission rule must exist as well.

PolicyAt the membership saleAt a covered service checkout
When soldThe seller earns the applicable sale commission. No membership redemption commission is added.
When redeemedNo membership sale commission is added. The provider earns the applicable redemption commission.
Split sold / redeemedThe seller earns the configured sale share. The provider earns the remaining share of the applicable redemption commission.

The default is When sold. A rule can override the business policy. See Commission and compensation for setup.

Sale and redemption can have different values and rules. A split does not promise two equal money amounts.

What value does a covered session use?

For a service paid with a membership session credit, Owneli uses the service line's list value to calculate redemption commission. The membership coverage that reduces the client's bill to zero does not reduce that commission base to zero.

The covered line counts as a membership redemption. It does not also earn ordinary service commission for the same line. A rule that applies only to services does not cover membership redemptions.

This is different from a membership that only gives a percentage discount. Check whether the client used a session credit or received a discount before comparing two visits.

A worked example

Suppose a service line is $100, one membership session covers it, and the applicable membership rule pays 30%. There are no commission deductions or provider splits.

Policy on that ruleCommission recorded for this covered visit
When sold$0 at redemption. Check the earlier membership sale separately.
When redeemed$100 × 30% = $30 for the provider.
Split sold / redeemed, with 50% paid at sale$100 × 30% × 50% = $15 for the provider at redemption.

These are illustration amounts. Your rate, deductions, rule dates and provider assignments determine the actual result.

Where do I check the result?

Open Reports → Commission statement after the checkout closes. Select the commission line to open Why this commission and inspect its rule, base and calculation. Check the provider and reporting period too.

Managers with access can review the team's figures. A team member sees their own statement. Use Commission and compensation if a line is missing or disputed.

Common questions

Does marking an appointment complete pay the provider?

No. This commission calculation runs when the sale closes. Recording earnings and paying a person are separate steps. Follow Prepare payroll for your accountant to review the pay run.

Why is the amount zero or missing?

Check the recognition policy first, then whether a membership rule covers this provider and date. Also confirm that the checkout is closed and a membership session actually covered the service. Booth renters do not earn commission through these rules.

Will changing the policy correct earlier visits?

No. A policy change applies going forward. It does not silently rewrite the commissions already recorded. Review past figures separately before changing payroll.
