Sell a product at the POS

Add retail products to a sale by search, barcode scan, or quick-sale favourites — and learn when stock is actually deducted.

Updated Aug 14, 2026

Add a product to any sale from the Products tab of the item picker — search by name, scan a barcode, or tap a pinned quick-sale favourite. Stock is checked when you add the line and deducted when the sale closes.

How do I add a product to a sale?

Open the picker

In the cart, tap Products on the Add to cart grid. (The same picker also has Services, Memberships, Packages and Gift card tabs.)

Find the product

Type in Search products…, or put the cursor in Scan or type a barcode… and scan — the matching product is added and the panel stays open, so you can scan a basket of items back to back.

Pick the variant if there is one

A product with options shows "{count} options" and a from-price; tap it to expand and choose the exact variant. A variant's barcode wins over the product's.

Check the line

The line lands with the product's price for your location and the default product tax. Adjust quantity as needed, then carry on to payment.

Pin your bestsellers with the star icon — they appear as Quick sale chips at the top of the picker, up to eight of them.

Stock: what's enforced, and when it moves

BehaviourDetail
Out of stockThe row shows Out of stock and can't be added; the server also refuses with "Out of stock at this location"
Per-locationStock is counted at the location of the sale — plentiful stock at another branch doesn't help
Already in the cartUnits sitting in this open cart count against stock, so you can't oversell by adding twice
Untracked productsA product with no stock tracking is always sellable
When stock is deductedWhen the sale closes — including a Save as unpaid close — not when the line is added

Selling a bundle deducts each component product's stock when the sale closes.

Prices and availability

Prices are per location, and the server is the authority — the price on the line is resolved when you add it, so a stale screen can't sell at an old price. A product marked unavailable at your location refuses to add.

Common questions

Why can't I find a product by scanning?

"No product matches that barcode" means no active product or variant in your business carries that code. Check the barcode on the product record under Retail → Products — and note the variant's barcode field is separate from the product's.

The product shows out of stock but I'm holding it — can I still sell it?

Not until the stock record is corrected. Adjust stock on the product (or run a count) and the line will add. See Products and stock.

Does a refund put the item back into stock?

Only a full refund with Restock items ticked. See Refunds and the cash drawer.

Can I sell a product on the same sale as a service?

Yes — one cart takes services, products, memberships, packages and gift cards together, and a product added to an appointment sale is credited to the appointment's provider.
