Tip settings live in Settings → Payments → Tips (admins only). They shape what the client is offered — whether the prompt shows, which percentages are suggested, and how a tip is divided between providers. Tips are always the client's choice: there is no default, automatic, or mandatory tip in Owneli.
This article is the configuration side; Tips covers checkout day to day.
What can I configure about tips?
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Allow tips | Master switch — shows or hides the tip option at checkout. Turning it on never adds a charge. |
| Suggested amounts | Editable percentage presets (e.g. 15 / 18 / 20). None is pre-selected; clients can always type a custom amount or leave nothing. |
| Basis | Suggestions calculated on the subtotal before tax or the total after tax — math only, never a limit on what the client types. |
| Include retail products | Off = only services count toward the suggestion, so nobody's nudged to tip on a serum. |
| Split between providers | The default division when several team members worked the visit — see below. |
| Tips with no provider | On a retail-only or walk-in sale: the tip goes to the cashier or a shared house pool. |
| Tip out to support staff | Redirects a percentage of each provider's tip into a shared support pool — re-divides money the client left, never adds a charge. |
How are tips split between providers?
| Method | Share is proportional to |
|---|---|
| By effort (time) — recommended | The scheduled time each provider worked |
| By service value | The price of each provider's services |
| Equal | Even split between every provider |
| Primary provider only | The whole tip to the appointment's main provider |
The cashier can adjust the split at checkout — this setting is the starting point, not a cage.
Per-location overrides
The policy here is the business default. A location can carry its own override using the same editor in the location's settings.
Common questions
Can I set a default tip that's pre-selected?
No — none of the suggestions is ever pre-selected. That's a deliberate design choice, not a missing setting.
Can I add a mandatory service charge instead?
Not through tips — tips are client-controlled by definition. Talk to your admin about pricing the service itself accordingly.
Who gets the tip on a product-only sale?
Whatever you chose under Tips with no provider: the cashier who rang the sale, or the shared house pool.
