LEAVING SQUARE

Export your clients from Square and bring them to Owneli.

The steps at Square follow its own help, checked on the date shown. Owneli’s importer then reads the file, shows you every column, and writes nothing until you have checked a dry run.

A smiling stylist hands a card reader to an older client at the salon’s front desk.
A client profile on a phone, with a note that the client is due for a repeat treatment and a button to send the reminder.

Short answer

In Square Dashboard, go to Customers, then Customer directory, then Import / Export, then Export customers, and download the CSV. In Owneli, choose Generic CSV as the source under Settings, then Plan & data, then Import: Square’s customer export is recognised, email consent and memo included. Saved cards do not come across.

Export from Square

  1. Open the customer directory

Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Customers, then Customer directory, then Directory.

  2. Export customers

Select Import / Export, then Export customers. Choose All Customers or Specific Groups, then Export.

  3. Download the CSV

When the file is ready, select Download.

Saved cards are separate: Square moves card data only to another PCI DSS Level 1 processor, after the account owner calls Square Support.

These steps follow Square help: export card on file data to a third-party payment processor, with the customer export steps, checked 2026-10-22

Bring it into Owneli

Admins and owners import under Settings. Nothing is written until you have checked it.

  1. Open the importer

Go to Settings, then Plan & data, then Import.

  2. Choose where the data is from

Pick Generic CSV under “Where is this data from?”, then drop in your files: CSV, TSV or Excel (.xlsx), up to 15,000 rows each. An older .xls file needs saving as .xlsx or CSV first.

  3. Check the columns

Every column is shown beside your own data, with the field it goes into. Point any column Owneli did not recognise at a field, or leave it out on purpose.

  4. Dry run, then import

The dry run shows exactly what will be created, matched or skipped. Run the import; if anything looks wrong, Roll back import removes what it created.

Worth knowing before you choose.

Questions

Can Square move my clients’ saved cards to Owneli?

Not through Owneli’s import. Square sends card data only to another PCI DSS Level 1 processor at the account owner’s request, and Owneli’s importer does not bring saved cards across: clients add their card again through a secure link.

Will imported clients get marketing messages?

Only those your file marks as opted in. Marketing consent follows the file: a no, a blank, or a file with no consent column leaves the client opted out.

Can I undo the import?

Yes. Roll back import deletes only the records that import created, unless they are already in use, such as an imported client with a new appointment.
